Romancing the Home – Meet Ramona Afonso

As part of the #romancingthehome series that I am currently participating in, I will be introducing you to the awesome designers and bloggers behind the blogs.

Today’s very accomplished designer is Ramona Afonso. I asked Ramona to put a short bio together for me and wow, was I impressed!

Here is what she had to say:

“Decor and design have always been in my blood. I remember driving my mother mad as a child because I was always rearranging my bedroom furniture, painting the walls and sewing my own curtains and cushions. This was when I wasn’t busy sewing an outfit for the weekend’s partying.

That hasn’t changed, except now I’ve made a career of it with a fashion label that walked the catwalks of SA Fashion Week in 2010 – 2012 – URBAN Goddess; as the creative director for corporate gifting and uniforms company Busby Promo; and most recently through my interior design company, Ruffles & Rust.

It was quite by chance that I officially ventured into interior design. I’ve always had an eye for design, an obsession with secondhand shop bargains and a love for getting my hands dirty, which explains why I’ve been at work creating my dream interiors ever since moving from home. It was in 2017 that I decided to take things to the next level. In my biggest interior project to date, our extensive kitchen renovation, I decided to enter it into Home magazine’s ‘Fix it with Flair’ competition. I loved how my kitchen turned out, and it turns out others did too! I was thrilled when my husband and I achieved a solid second place for all our hard work.

This was the vote of confidence I needed to branch out and aim higher. Since then, I’ve completed a number of interior design projects for clients including a five-star boutique hotel and a contemporary kitchen makeover that landed me a feature in SA Garden and Home magazine.

Decor and design is such a satisfying creative outlet for me, I love the joy that comes from making things beautiful, both for myself and my clients. And I’m not precious about keeping trade secrets either, which is why my Instagram account is overflowing with ideas, inspiration and tips everyone can use.

I have to laugh at the delightful case of karma I’m experiencing with my youngest daughter, who is following in my childhood footsteps and rearranging the furniture of our beautiful home.”

I am speechless! From just the interactions that we have had here and the one phone call that we have had, I can tell that Ramona is a go-getter and achieves anything that she puts her mind to. The bio that she wrote for us attests to this!

I hope that you enjoyed learning more about Ramona as much as I did. I encourage you to sign up to her blog and to follow her on social media; I’m going to put all her links here again:

I will be introducing you to Talia and Liz over the next 2 weeks as well, be prepared to be blown even further away with even more talent!
