Romancing the Home – A space to relax

Welcome to our second challenge in the #romancingthehome series – An outdoor space to relax! As soon as this topic was thrown out by the group as an option, I knew what I was going to write about… my porch swing!

Yes, I have a porch swing. I don’t have a porch, but I have a swing and I love it. We have a courtyard entry to our home, which is not usual, but I managed to find the perfect place to put a swing. Hubs also later build and installed our braai in the same area to create a braai room, but that is a story for another day!

Back to my swing. It’s the perfect place to relax, whether it be the middle of summer (just plug in the fan) or the middle of winter (just light the fire). It’s a place to lie and relax, a place to sit and chat, and a place to quietly doze off on a lazy weekend afternoon.

A warm vintage crocheted blanket, mountains of throw pillows, a yummy candle, a good magazine, a cup of tea…. bliss!

I have also found that this is one of the easiest places for me to style. All it needs is a mountain of pillows and a comfortable blanket or two. Oh, and don’t forget the rug! The rug just adds a touch of coziness of the space.

This rug from Mr Price Home is one of my favourite purchases of all time.

The latest tweak to the area was to add was our DIY wood shutters. I have always wanted shutters and this seemed to be the easiest way for me to get them. They added just a bit more country cottage to the space and I love how it frames the mirror.

For this shoot, I decided to use the continental pillows from my bedroom; I also bought a set of 2 new pillow covers from Mr Price Home just to change things up a bit.

Other than that, everything else remained largely the same: Same pillows, same mattress cover, same rug, same faux florals that I have collected over the years – proof that you don’t need to change a whole space to get a whole new feel. Just mixing things up and adding only a few new touches was all that was needed to make it feel fresh and new again!

Just a few new touches and a bit of shopping our home has breathed new life into this space.

I’m so ready for lying there in the cool spring evenings. I can imagine sitting there, sipping on my tea (or amarula) while listening to the birds chirp and the kids play outside. It gives just a hint to the long summer evenings to come.

And now for some even more fun!! Check out my friends tips, ideas and creations!
