Hey there and welcome to this week’s #romancingthehome theme – an intimate dinner for two; just in time for Valentine’s Day! Now, those who know me know that I am not the cook in the family, so this is quite a challenge for me. How do I create this intimate dinner for two, in the chaos of a family of four, all while staying true to who we are as a couple and a family?
Ok, so let me take a step back here, just in case you haven’t yet read my post on a different view of a romantic Valentine’s bedroom. We don’t actually celebrate Valentine’s Day and, if we do, we usually do something as a family. Yes, you read that right – we are the crazies that don’t really get what the fuss is all about.
That being said, Hubs and I do enjoy our alone time. One of the ways we have recently done this in the middle of the chaos is by trying new recipes together on a regular basis, thanks to Checkers and their new meal kits (and no, Checkers are not sponsoring us). We use the time to catch up on the day and just chat about whatever is on our minds. I have no idea why we don’t do this when we don’t buy the kit, maybe it’s the novelty? 🤷♀️🤔
Anyway, my plan for Valentine’s Day was to get one of the kits that we can prepare together; grab a ready-made dessert and maybe a bottle of bubbles. Because why not, right?!
So, here goes – here is how we celebrated our Valentine’s Day this year, albeit a week early!
Right, so we have all the necessary pieces to create a magical Valentine’s experience. The kids even had baby sitters – we were ready! So, we turned up the music and got to making supper!
It was really easy, we followed all the instructions and then ate all the food without taking any photos. I’m such a good blogger right?!
Anyway, next up was dessert. Cooking supper was more than enough food making for me, so for dessert we had the most delicious red velvet cupcakes from the Velvet Cake Company and some Lindor balls – yum!
I’m not going to lie, I’m so glad that the #romancingthehome ladies came up with this theme/challenge, because we had so much fun putting this together! I mean, when last have we had couple time, bubbles, delicious food, cupcakes and chocolate all on a school night?! So, yes, maybe we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February, but we certainly have learned to celebrate each other.
All this to say: My view is to celebrate the day/time in the way that feels true to you. Don’t feel that you need to buy into the commercialism of it if that’s not your thing. Or go all out, the whole hog if it is your thing. All that matters it that you take time out to spend with your loved ones, whether that be yourself, your partner, your children, your parents, your siblings, your grandparents, your bestie…. you get the picture!
Now, in the spirit of love, please go and check out my friends beautiful thoughts and ideas:
